PTW Architects has a dedicated information technology team to provide network support across our local and international practices. Our project team includes specialists in building information modelling, computational design and real-time visualization to provide customized input to projects.

The teams can utilise a wide range of design tools to develop our design concepts using Sketchup, Rhino, 3dsmax and Revit applications. Autodesk AEC Collection, Adobe CC applications, Office 365 are our main software platforms. Our design process includes physical models, both 3d printings and the craft of traditional model techniques.

Our design documentation derives from BIM models produced primarily on Autodesk Revit. We centralise our component libraries to provide efficient updates across the practices. The design team selects suitable processes tailored to building performance design need in order to optimise economic, social and environmental sustainability.

We can work collaboratively with remote clients, consultants and teams securely in the Cloud and we communicate regularly through video conferences and screen-sharing sessions. Where project demands specific security, a project can be hosted exclusively on our local server with backup and monitoring.

PTW has been collaborating with the UNSW Computational Design course in recent years, on sightline optimisation and augmented reality. Computational design is the application of algorithmic and parametric strategies to the design process.

It encompasses design iteration to task automation through visual programming. Our architects apply computational design methods to generate design options, connect parametric inputs to geometric outputs and automate repetitive tasks. In-depth analysis of the project’s environmental performance is possible.

With Revit LIVE, 3dsmax Interactive, Lumion and Enscape, the PTW team can generate real-time VR walkthroughs and provide realistic representations of the design on-demand. Our creative team can coordinate BIM models with specialist consultants to undertake clash detections and quantity analysis to minimize on site risk and optimise project delivery.
