City Two

The majority of central Sydney CBD commuters using Wynyard Station do so via the low ceiling ramps off George Street or the subterranean passageway beneath that leads through to Hunter and Pitt Streets. The proposed City One @ Wynyard development demolishes the ramps together with Thakral House and the Menzies Hotel above them. In their place a multi-level retail atrium, open to air and natural light at either end, will provide a memorable entrance to a refurbished Wynyard Station, Sydney’s second busiest CBD commuter station.

A ten storey podium above the retail atrium will include the restored façade and rehabilitated floors of the historic Shell House, providing almost 3000sqm of commercial office space per floor. Above the podium a tapering tower provides a further seventeen floors of premium office space in a landmark building.

It is proposed to upgrade the Wynyard Station by increasing the number of ticket turn styles, redesigning the stairs to the platforms and decluttering both the paid and unpaid concourses. Major improvements will be made to emergency egress, ventilation, lighting, signage, smoke management and public address systems.
