German International School Sydney Competition

The main objectives of the proposal for a new German International School in Sydney were: a light, communicative, friendly, transparent and highly flexible building that is derived from the unique landscape and that is appropriate for the geographic and climatic conditions.

Two buildings housing the facilities are connected via open verandas, while a louvre-curtain continues into the landscape and softly wraps the entire structure, allowing the different parts to grow together as an ensemble.

Common principles of local architecture such as the relation of interior to exterior areas are adapted and interpreted in a contemporary architectural language, along with intelligent use of natural ventilation, solar access and ecologically sustainable design.
