The new work was carried out while the existing institution continued functioning. Construction was coordinated to cause a minimum of disruption to normal operations.
The work connected with the original gallery buildings, responding to the heritage fabric, and the gallery’s location within a sensitive city precinct and bringing together the disparate levels of the existing buildings. The new addition includes a three-storey foyer space, providing strong readable connections between key interior spaces and outdoor terraces.
