The L-shaped site of 4,643sqm was bounded by Stewart Avenue to the southeast, Hunter Street to the northeast, a right-of-way to the southwest and the heritage (former) Castlemaine Brewery site to the northwest.
The anchor tenant was the Newcastle City Council and the 2019 move to 12 Stewart Avenue was aligned with the strategic relocation of Newcastle’s city centre under its urban renewal strategy and Council’s plans for Wickham and the West End.
In 2020 The Gateway 2 was a finalist in the commercial development category for the UDIA NSW Crown Group Awards for excellence.
