City of Sydney, Design Excellence Competition - Winner

This competition-winning design for four towers on a five-storey podium, will be the centrepiece development facing the new public park at Pagewood Green.

The towers were conceived as pale and ethereal crystalline vertical elements, hovering above a warm, earthier and more human-scaled five-level plinth. The podium itself is visually divided into a double-height recessed base, sitting beneath three-storey horizontal forms.

Each glazed tower frame is separated by open balconies, whose recesses create a dark and contrasting vertical shadow line.

The smaller northern pair of towers are arranged to improve view corridors north for the taller southern pair of towers, compared to the approved Masterplan. This also provides sun onto the podium-level landscaped communal gardens.

With a total of 515 units (one bedroom to three bedroom apartments) a residents pool and gymnasium will sit within the podium, flooded with natural light.

The design includes north-facing cafes and shops at ground level, facing the 5,000sqm new park and a paved civic plaza, all creating a natural gathering point for this new planned neighbourhood.
