The project is located in Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech Cultural Center, at the intersection in Yuhang District. It is situated on the northwest side of the central peninsula. The three main buildings occupy their respective corners, with compact construction to release active space. The natural landscape is introduced into the site to break the boundaries of the land use, connect the two sides of the river channel, and create a comprehensive sports center that meets the functional needs of international events, mass sports, and commercial leisure.
The architectural facade draws inspiration from traditional cultural elements of Hangzhou. The graphic texture of the folding fan’s bamboo frame pattern is used to correspond with the composition of the football stadium’s facade. Meanwhile, the hand embroidery of Hangzhou resembles the tension cables of the architectural curtain wall system, highlighting the delicacy and elegance of the building’s exterior facade. The roof design of the main building resembles glistening dewdrops on a lotus leaf, paying homage to Hangzhou’s urban characteristics.
The ETFE Structure Roof of the football stadium provides a transparent visual appeal, allowing ample sunlight for the natural turf while harnessing natural ventilation to create a comfortable indoor environment, in line with Hangzhou’s mild and humid climate, reducing the energy consumption of the air conditioning system. The sports arena and swimming pool adopt an integrated photovoltaic building design, with photovoltaic curtain wall materials on the façade and roof totaling 15,000 m2. Calculated based on the actual solar radiation in Hangzhou, the annual electricity generation of the photovoltaic system is 1335.9 MWh/a.
